What’s Worrying Kenes Rakishev?
While the “antiterrorist” operation is still going on in Kazakhstan, the life in the country is gradually getting back on track. Nonetheless, it is still far from being completely balanced and it looks like we are in for new surprises. This, among other things, is evident from an unexpected statement of BTA Bank JSC.
You will recall that, after giving away its banking licences in 2015, this legal body has been operating not as a bank but as some sort of ghost existing only because the Library and Akorda still use it as the main “weapon” in their never-ending “war” against their political archenemy Mukhtar Ablyazov.
Here are several quotes from the press-release published on BTA Bank website on January 19, 2022, and then reprinted by some media-resources (text in bold by KZ.expert):
“BTA Bank JSC informs that it is continuing working on getting back the stolen assets. After the bloody and tragic events of the start of the current January and due to the international judicial trials moving into the active stage, the management of the company and the shareholder have been experiencing hacker and information attacks. We anticipate that soon there will be a leakage of false and provocative information. These attacks aim to blackmail and discredit BTA Bank JSC. Ablyazov M.K. and his accomplices are the main figurants of these trials.
We ask you not to fall prey to the leakages of false information and trust the official sources only. You can receive all the reliable information on the official website of BTA Bank JSC www.bta.kz. Let us remind you that spreading deliberately false information is criminally liable in accordance with Article 274 “Spreading Deliberately False Information” of the Kazakh Criminal Code.
We do not know what kind of information former Chairman of the BTA Board of Directors Mukhtar Ablyazov and his allies (aka accomplices) are going to “leak” but, judging by the fact that the ghost of the former bank got worried, its current owner Kenes Rakishev is more than concerned.
We at KZ.expert believe these concerns are well-justified because, as oppose to the Kazakh state and the “leader of the nation”, Kenes Rakishev is but a businessman albeit a wealthy and a weighty one.
It is quite possible that Mr. Ablyazov, for instance, has finally decided to reveal the story of how dollar billionaire Timur Kulibayev, with direct support of his father-in-law, the then Prime Minister Karim Masimov, ex-chair of Samruk-Kazyna JSC and the National Bank Kayrat Kelimbetov, ex-chair of the RK Agency for Regulation and Monitoring Financial Market Elena Bakhmutova and a number of their associates, stole two BTA Bank’s assets – one in Russia and another in Kazakhstan. By the way BTA Bank JSC had invested no less than US$1.3 bln in these assets.
Another topic that may turn out to be über-sensitive for BTA Bank and Kenes Rakishev is what they have spent on the “war” against Muktar Ablyazov.
The existing practices suggest that, in such cases, Akorda (now the Library) has never been above funding the legally dubious operations. Including those involving not only private detective agencies but semi-criminal organisations.
Since in his posts on social networks Ablyazov says that he is being surveilled on a constant basis, it is quite possible that he has been able to uncover something that may do damage to Kenes Rakishev’s reputation.
The third topic that may harm not only Kenes Rakishev but also his father-in-law Imangali Tasmagambetov is revealing the true size of their family fortune and the sources of its origin. According to our estimates, the fortune constitutes a sum much higher than a billion dollars and we are prepared to support our estimations by corresponding documents.
So, as likely as not, soon we will see on the Internet information on how and from where Imangali Tasmagambetov had obtained the hundreds of millions of US dollars that he then entrusted to his son-in-law.
In conclusion, we would like to underscore that, in this particular case, trusting the official source, i.e. BTA Bank JSC would be a big mistake. If only because the said ghost of a legal body, deliberately or out of its own laziness, is already deceiving the Kazakh citizens.
